Oh. My. Gosh. You took my breath away! How wonderful! This is soooo amazing. Thank you so very much for sharing your tutorial with us, I can NOT wait to go home after work and play. My family will have to Beat, Push, and Poke to get me off of the computer! Thanks again, Really.
LOVE the tutorial! The 'purple flower girl' is amazing, and I am so happy to see the work done in elements! So, do you have any ideas or suggestions for these type of fantasy shots with BOYS? I can't seem to think of what kind of background photo to use to make my boys look 'cool'. Any ideas?
That's an awesome question, Jenni. What about wizards/dragons/magic/princes that kind of thing? I have some pictures of my nephew to play with. Maybe I'll play later! Thank you for the question!!!
This is a amazing. I love your work, especially this photo. Wow! I am really into photography of my kids, but I haven't ventured into Photoshop yet. I guess I feel a little overwhelmed about it. But seeing this gorgeous photo makes me want to try it out.
I can't wait to cry it. You did such a fantastic job! The directions were so perfect. Thank you for taking so much time to do that! What a gem you are : )
I am totally inspired...as if I needed MORE reasons to be on the computer! :) I'm a little intimidated, but I think I'll be able to follow the way you broke it down. Thanks!
Thank you for the tutorial. You are very talented. It is so nice to read a tutorial from someone else using Elements. Thanks again for taking the time. Hope to see more tutorials.
This is SO amazing!! I have done some really fun Christmas cards over the past 4 years, but have been totally stumped for a really creative idea for this year. (It was a lot more fun before people expected something big - now the pressure is making it hard to think!)
This is such a fun technique. There has to be some way to make it Christmas-related. Any ideas?
WOW, is all I've got words to speak! I absolutely love what you've done with this photo, if only I can learn how to do such a magical scene.
I so badly want to learn Photoshop but I just can't seem to figure it out...we argue like the dickens! Is there a version of Photoshop that you would suggest over all the other versions for ease and friendly use but still with the same quality??
I loved your tutorial. I just tried one of my own and I'm excited to keep trying new variations in the future. You've opened a whole new can of worms for me.
I've seen some people dress their children as angels and then put them in a manger scene. That might be kind of cool. Or you could put them on a Christmas ornament, sit them on the edge of a Christmas tree limb. Sit them in a poinsettia flower. Anything Christmasy. Don't let the size of things throw you off. If you extract the children you can put them bigger or smaller into any background scene. Good luck and have fun!!! Amanda
Photoshop is like learning another language. Once you learn what to call what you want to do then you can google the "how to" part. When I was first learning there was one evening I stomped out of my space and said I was going to throw the whole thing through the window!
I'd recommend Photoshop Elements. It can be any of them 2-7. I use PSE5. The Photoshop Creative Suites are very, very powerful and have lots of options I don't need. One thing I do find I need is curves which you can get as a free plug-in for any of the Elements editions.
Another thing I'd recommend is calibrating your monitor. Purchase a low-cost piece of hardware such as the Pantone Huey and make sure when you are looking at red, it is RED. When you calibrate your monitor you'll also check the brightness. Chances are you need to turn it waaaaay down. Calibrating your monitor will mean your prints will match what you see.
The third thing I'd suggest is look at award winning photographs. You can play with a picture all day long, but if you don't have an idea of where you want to go, then you don't know the questions to ask. Such as ... my picture looks flat, not a lot of contrast. How do I increase the contrast without going too far? What is too far? Have I clipped the highlights or the blacks? Are my skin-tones good? Is my little one too orange or yellow? Is there a green cast from the trees and flowers around me. Look specifically at pictures by Jessica Claire or Jasmine Starr.
I really hope this helps. Once you get an idea of what those tools in PSE are called and what they do, then you can really start to play and experiment.
I have an older version of Photoshop 6.0. Will using the fantasy option as you did with this photo and the one displayed on IHeartFaces.com work with 6.0 too?
Sorry to have written you and left so many comments, but I'm begging you, can you please contact me using the 'contact us' tab on my website? I tried to find Elements 5 at Best Buy but they only have Elements 6, which my husband said with work...can I get your opinion on this? I really would LOVE to do this fantasy work that you've displayed. Like I said years back we had to pay Studio One to One close to $800 just to create a 'fantasy like' background and it didn't even look at good at yours! Please, please contact me!!
Thanks AJ for all your help! I'm about to buy CS4 soon but I'll talk to my husband about Elements 5, but I can't seem to find it anywhere...did they maybe stop selling it?
I definitely need one on one training to learn this because I only got so far as add the little girls unedited photo and then couldn't figure out anything else, well except to mess the photo up. lol. You're a doll...I'm sure I'll figure it out in time though...and if I do I'll show ya in an email to you...wish me luck.

Hi Amanda,
I have an older version of Photoshop 6.0. Will using the fantasy option as you did with this photo and the one displayed on IHeartFaces.com work with 6.0 too?
Yes :). Everything you need is there. It just may be in a different place. You may want to check where curves are. I use curves a lot!
Good luck and have fun!
